The Accreditation Board (AB) is a collegial decision-making and independent body operating within ASCAL. The activity and functioning of BA is defined in the Law on Higher Education No. 80/2015, Law No. 8480, dated 27.05.1999, on the functioning of collegial bodies, in the decision of the Council of Ministers No. 109, dated 15.02.2017, and its regulation.
The Board consists of 11 members, of whom a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 must be foreign members. All members are distinguished figures of the academic community, with long-standing experience in teaching and scientific research, both within and outside the Republic of Albania.
The members and the Chairperson of the Accreditation Board are appointed and dismissed by the Prime Minister, upon the proposal of the Minister responsible for education. The term of office for AB members is four years. The current Accreditation Board was appointed by Order of the Prime Minister No.191, dated 16.10.2025.
The Accreditation Board continues the work of the former Accreditation Council, established under the previous Law on Higher Education No. 9741, dated 21.05.2007. Under the new Law on Higher Education and Scientific Research, no. 80/2015, the Accreditation Board holds the authority to make final decisions on the accreditation of higher education institutions and their study programs.
